About the Study
Since July 2000, the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation has funded the Association of Directors of Geriatric Academic Programs (ADGAP) to collect reliable high quality data on many aspects of geriatric education for medical students, residents and fellows, and practicing physicians. ADGAP subcontracted the study to the University of Cincinnati’s Institute for the Study of Health, (previously know as the Institute for Health Policy and Health Services Research). The research and resulting publications from this work have provided critical information to foundations, health professionals, policy experts, and government agencies committed to improving geriatric medical care.
Starting in February 2006, the John A. Hartford Foundation joins with the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation in funding three more years of the workforce study.
Workforce Study Objectives
- To collect longitudinal data to determine whether recently implemented programs sponsored by foundations and state and federal programs have strengthened physicians' geriatrics training and practice across the United States.
- To provide high quality longitudinal information on the status of geriatric medicine training and practice that will help guide future national policy.
- To provide information that can lead to increased recognition of the importance of geriatric research and training programs.
